Winter season postponed, and other important updates

Jan. 14, 2021

Due to the continuing threat to public health created by the pandemic, now declared a state of emergency by the province of Ontario, the Ryerson Image Centre's galleries will remain closed for the coming winter season.

Our previously scheduled exhibitions, including Stories from the Picture Press: Black Star Publishing Co. and The Canadian PressLouie Palu: Cage CallDominique Blain: Dérive/Drift; and our student/alumni exhibitions, will be postponed to a later date, to be announced.

During the coming months, we hope you will join us for a series of online events that we have planned. Stay tuned to our emails, website, and social media channels for announcements and details. We also encourage you to explore our existing online resources: watch artist talks, exhibition tours, and more on our YouTube; dive into our collections or past exhibitions on our website; and follow us on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook

We are planning to reopen our doors in spring 2021 in conjunction with the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival, and are excited to feature the exhibition Scotiabank Photography Award: Dana Claxton. A Hunkpapa Lakota photographer and filmmaker, Claxton challenges stereotypes and representations of Indigenous peoples in popular culture. Drawing from Indigenous history as well as contemporary life, culture, and spirituality, the landscapes, objects, and portraits on display will offer an intimate exploration of the artist’s relationship to the Great Plains, Claxton’s birthplace. Other exhibitions on view will include Susan Dobson: Slide|LectureEmmanuelle Léonard: DeploymentRana Nazzal Hamadeh: 1/1000th of a Dunam, and Heather Rattray: Things That I Know, Things That You Know

We will continue to monitor and follow the recommendations and regulations provided by public health agencies, the government, and Ryerson University, and are prepared to modify our plans as necessary. Please check our website ryersonimagecentre.ca for the most current information.

Stay healthy and safe, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the RIC soon.
