Temporary Closure Effective March 13, 2020

Mar. 13, 2020

The Ryerson Image Centre has temporarily closed its galleries and research centre, effective March 13 through April 30, in conjunction with Ryerson University’s efforts to protect members of the community during the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak.

Our exhibitions—A Handful of Dust: From the Cosmic to the Domestic, Extending the Frame: 40 Years of Gallery TPW, Nir Evron: A Free Moment, and Shaun Fernandes: Getting the Most From Your Hammer—have unfortunately closed in advance of their scheduled end date of April 5. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

Events related to these shows, including all scheduled exhibition tours, the upcoming Howard and Carole Tanenbaum Lecture with Sophie Ristelhueber (w/ Marc Mayer) and our Curators in Conversation event with David Campany (w/ Sara Knelman), have been cancelled. Our research centre is closed during this period, and our scheduled Noontime Collection Talk with Chris Varley (w/ Paul Roth) will be rescheduled for a later date.

Please continue to check our website for further updates during the coming weeks.

Our priority at the RIC is to protect and support our visitors, staff, and volunteers. In concert with administration at Ryerson University and guidance from the city of Toronto and Province of Ontario, we have taken several proactive precautionary measures, including discouraging staff travel to affected areas, implementing rigorous cleaning routines, and instituting social distancing measures. We believe that we must do all we can to ensure a safe environment for our community, even at the expense of our programming.

We look forward to making a future announcement that we are reopening to welcome our staff and visitors back to the RIC for our spring-summer season.
